SAND (Self Advocates Network Development) is a collaborative project of the Arkansas DD Network partners, the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities Arkansas, Disability Rights Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas UCEDD Partners for Inclusive Communities. This project, funded by a grant from the GCDDAR, created the Arkansas’ statewide self-advocate coordinator position and supports SA network development activities. Darren Morris serves as the Self-Advocate Coordinator at Disability Rights Arkansas and SAND. He travels around the state mentoring and training self-advocates, with the goals of increasing self-advocacy, supporting self-advocates in becoming leaders, and rebuilding local self-advocacy chapters around the state. If you are a self-advocate in Arkansas and would like to learn more about advocacy, please contact Darren Morris.
