Mann sworn in as new Secretary of Arkansas Department of Human Services

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) — Janet Mann has been sworn in as the new Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) after she was formally confirmed for the role by the Arkansas Senate on Friday.

Mann, who previously served as Deputy Secretary for Programs, was named by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders as the next DHS Secretary in June. She has been serving as Secretary Designate since last month when Secretary Kristi Putnam departed DHS to spend more time with family in Kentucky. Mann takes on the official role of Secretary after being sworn in Monday afternoon at DHS headquarters in a ceremony attended by her husband, Doug, and colleagues. The oath of office was administered by Arkansas Supreme Court Associate Justice Cody Hiland.

“It is a true honor to lead this agency, and I look forward to continuing to uphold DHS’ mission of protecting the vulnerable, fostering independence, and promoting better health,” Mann said. “I am grateful to Gov. Sanders for the trust she has placed in me, and I’m excited to work with our amazing teams to best serve beneficiaries all across this state.”

Mann will continue to also serve as State Medicaid Director while searching for a replacement.

Mann has worked in the public and private sector for multiple states and clients, including within DHS and in Mississippi.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama and is a Certified Public Accountant. She has been married to Doug for over 32 years and has 2 grown children, Sydney and Will.
