September is National Preparedness Month (NPM). NPM is a nationwide initiative sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s Ready Campaign. It encourages Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies and natural disasters in their homes, businesses, and communities. 

The Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities actively participates in National Preparedness Month by raising awareness and providing resources. We focus on the specific needs of people with disabilities and their families during emergencies.

Preparedness Starts at Home, the 2025 NPM theme, focuses on getting back to the essentials of preparedness.
